As a culturally rich and incredibly diverse nation Germany has much to offer the growing numbers of tourists that are visiting its cities and towns. From the beautiful city of Berlin in the north-east to the glittering cultural icon of Munich in the south, Germany is much more than an industrial nation. It's Black Forest region is known for its outstanding beauty, as is Lake Constance and the Rhine Valley region. The Baltic and North Sea coasts are incredibly popular in summer, whilst the winter wonderland of the Bavarian Alps is favoured around Christmas time. Germany's cities also have a lot to offer. Frankfurt is renowned for its large financial district and its beautiful Romer Square; Hamburg in the north is famed for its harbour and St Michaelis Church, whilst Cologne in the west is known for its beautiful Cathedral and Hohenzollern Bridge.
Situated as it is in central Europe, Germany is an incredibly easy country to get to, whether by air, train, car or even boat. Kiel and Rostock in the north are busy ferry ports, whilst many of Germany's cities are linked by rail to the majority of Europe's capitals. The autobahn network links all of Germany's regions and provides fast connections to the surrounding countries (such as Austria, Poland and France). It is Germany's air network that is most efficient, however, with many of Europe's largest airports within the country's borders. Berlin-Schonefeld International, Frankfurt International, Munich International and Dusseldorf International are amongst the busiest. Car hire is recommended for exploring Germany, particularly as its road network is so comprehensive. Europcar, Avis, Hertz, Budget and Sixt are amongst the rental companies that offer car hire within the country. |
